Day 2 Dallas Zoo, Electricity, Oil Still Texas Part B
Posted on June 20, 2010
Everywhere we turned we hit traffic in Dallas so we were able to take a good city shot from the car.
We bought Elijah his first camera. Just like his parents, he loves to take pictures. He cracks me up. There were several times during the day that he had to get the “shot”.
Check out this sign… hilarious!!
My babies enjoyed the fake animals more than the real ones. It was so hot that most of the animals were hiding in shade places or sleeping. We did see animals but none of them were hyper to say the least.
I looked down at one point and my sweet girl was as red as a tomato so we bought Popsicles to cool off!
And Sarah was out…. for only 30 mins. Little stinker didn’t really take a nap but this picture makes he look like an angel.
More of the road….
We stopped at the 7-11 for a slurpee and to let everyone stretch legs and Elijah asked… what is this? We laughed so hard. He had never seen a pay phone. We had to teach him about dial tones and pay phones.
The neatest thing about this day for me was the windmills. We saw hundreds of windmills…. hundreds… everywhere. We even drove through the “Wind Energy Capitol of the World” Who knew??
We also saw lots of oil wells… lots and lots….
And the kids at the hotel and the hotel…. today we stayed at a TownPlace Suites by Marriot. Very, Very nice…
Day Two – Texas, Texas, and yes… Texas Part A
Posted on June 19, 2010
Today started a journey across Texas. We planned our day with a stop in Dallas to visit the Dallas Zoo. Then we went on to Odessa, TX. We had a LONG day of driving with 9 1/2 hours of driving time without stops. And you know with two kids, we had to make a lot of stops. We arrived at our hotel around 9:30. We left Shreveport at 8:00. It has been a long day. We saw so many things to day and for the most part, everyone had a great day. I think by the end of our day we were all just ready to get out. Sarah kept saying “OUT! OUT!” and Elijah was cranky and well…so was mom and dad.
But we are here and the kids are trying to get to sleep. Tomorrow we head out to Tucson, AZ. We don’t have anything planned for stops but I am sure we will find some kind of adventure.
We started our day with baths. Every kids needs a picture like this…
And we quickly met Texas…
Have you seen a sign like this before? Why do they need a different speed limit for nightime? The whole state is this way.
Or how about picnic tables under oil wells???
The scenry started to change… we were happy for something different to look at!
My kids are so cute!
We ran into some traffic once we hit Dallas…
Who knew? A road just for us…. it didn’t take us to the zoo so we passed…
And this guy…. wow, this is what Texas is all about right? Cowboy hat, bronco…. check out the tire cover. I bet he did that all himself. LOVE IT….lol.
That is all for tonight. It is a little after 11 pm and the internet at the hotel is crazy slow. So… I am going to give you guys two posts from today to comment on. Tomorrow I will post our pictures from the zoo, the windmills, the oil wells, and other adventures…. I know you are waiting on pins and needles.
Day One – Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana
Posted on June 18, 2010
Today was day one of the road and it was a great day. I don’t think that kids realize we are driving for four days so they were just excited to be on the trip.
We of course had to start our morning off at the kids favorite place for some chicken minis. Exciting life we lead…
Then we headed on to the Mississippi border. Cory wanted me to take a picture to prove we were in Alabama too. I thought it was silly because we are in Tuscaloosa all the time… but this does indeed prove we also traveled in Alabama today.
And the kids wanted me to take a picture… proof we did bring them.
We saw a lot of this…
And this….
And this… I KNOW exciting…. right?
When we reached Mississippi we decided we would stop at every state line rest stop. The Homemakers of Miss. were giving our fresh baked cookies. Very nice!
We let the kids run around the rest stop and get some energy out. They thought it was great but Elijah wondered where the river was… (All he knows about Mississippi is the river!)
Did you know there is a Chunky, Miss? Cory really wanted to stop and pose in front of the sign….
The we finally hit the Mississippi River. You would have thought it was Disney world…. Elijah was so excited.
Then we hit Louisiana… We stopped at the reststop for a few tourist pictures.
And we ended our day in Shreveport at the Residence Inn. I LOVE Residence Inns because of the full kitchen and huge rooms. Ahhh, home sweet home… tomorrow…. TEXAS!
