Day 14 – A steak the size of Texas!

Posted on July 28, 2010

We drove into Albuquerque, New Mexico at midnight!! We spent more time in Arizona that we planned and it threw our schedule way off. It was a beautiful way to see the city for the first time!

The next morning we woke up and headed to Oklahoma but drove through Texas first. Our plan was to visit the Big Texan Steakhouse that has been featured on Food Network. Have you heard of the place where if you eat the 72 oz steak your dinner is free? We had to check it out! Of course we did NOT eat the 72 oz steak! But someone was trying while we were there (he didn’t succeed!) It was a cute place to stop with lots of touristy things to see and pose in front of for pictures. The kids were so excited to eat with the cowboys and it was a great break from driving for hours! And for the record… the steak was the best I have ever had and I am a big fan of a good steak!

We saw Cadilac  Ranch from the interstate! Next time we will stop but we had a sleeping baby!

And the second largest cross in the Northern Hemisphere…. seriously.. I can’t make these things up!

And the leaning water tower….

Beautiful landscapes!

We also drove on Route 66 for a little while just to say we did!

Tomorrow… Oklahoma and Arkansas!!

Day 13 – The Grand Canyon

Posted on July 25, 2010

I think I was most excited about this day than any other day of traveling. We had been pumping it to Elijah so much that anytime we saw something big he said “It’s the grand canyon”. And we would say, “No, the grand canyon is bigger than THAT”. I have to say the grand canyon was beautiful but the Indian reservation we drove through on the way to New Mexico was even more beautiful! We let our GPS take us through the backroads and we didn’t see anything for miles but such amazing landscapes. What a awesome country we live in!

Here I am with the kids and my aunt and uncle. They both turn 90 this year and are some of the most interesting and wonderful people I know! We had a great visit!

On our way to the Grand Canyon…

Elijah about to see the Grand Canyon for the first time!

More from the National Park!

We saw Elk…

Thanks for the sign… now I will not get out of the van!

The awesome road side shops on the reservation. I spent way too much here. They took credit cards…. smart people!

And more from our trip to New Mexico!
