52 Week Project – Week 6

Posted on February 14, 2011

We had another fabulous week in the Ferguson house. The 52 week project is having an effect on me that I didn’t expect…. I am seeing art in every day things. For example… my E needed a haircut. We have been going to Bluff Park Barber Shop for about 6 months now and I love it. Tim, the owner, is really good with E. I love it when I walk into the show and I feel like I am going back 50 years. There is a real hometown feel and I love supporting another small business. I knew when I snapped this picture that I was going to LOVE it. It is every day life and I know one day I am going to cherish this picture. Our life will never be the same as it is right now. Lord, help me to see the art in every day life!

Very exciting times here with the snow! It was the fluffiest snow I have ever seen! Great for playing! Notice the picture where the kids are hitting Cory with a snowball and then see the next one where they are running from him? LOVE IT!

And a quick snap shot of S. She was supposed to be napping when Cory found her like this… we haven’t quite figured out how to get her to nap every day since we put her in the toddler bed!

And THE Taco Truck! I read about the Taco Truck HERE after it was featured in Southern Living. Anyone that knows us, knows we LOVE a taco. We decided to try it out a couple weeks ago and I don’t know where they have been our entire life but I am in LOVE. Seriously awesome food and awesome prices!! Even our kids love the taco truck! Go check it out and tell me what you think!

And this week was filled with friends and family! You have probably noticed I have been taking pictures of my friends and sharing them with this project. I had a realization in December that in 2010 we did very little with our friends. We spent most of the year working and doing things for the kids. Don’t get me wrong… we are still working a relatively new business and two young children but when you hear a dear friend say… I really miss you… the guilt comes in. At the end of my life what will mean the most to me is the relationships with other people not how much money we made or how many portraits I edited… I think you know what I mean. So for 2011, my goal is to see a friend every week and take a picture. Some weeks we may see more (like this week), and at the end of year I want to make an album of all the great people that are in our life! We, as a family, are really enjoying the fellowship with others. It has been awesome!

Cory’s brother came by for the night… I forgot to get a picture of him looking at the camera but I did take one of him reading to Sarah!

Years ago before we had kids, Cory and I were in a bible study in a friend’s house for over a year. We would see the group every week and we grew so close. Somehow we left 4 YEARS go by since I have seen this dear friend. We had her over to chicken and dumplings and caught up with her life. It was wonderful to see her again! We promised to not let 4 years go by again!

And here are two more of our dearest friends! Right after we were married, we would spend EVERY weekend with N. Later she married her fabulous husband and we loved him as much as we love her! We met last night for dinner and I have missed them SO much! We talked for hours about thier exciting plans for the next year. LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! Praise God for good friends!

So that is it for this week! Leave me some blog love… this is such a personal project and it makes my heart smile to hear what you think!

We are in for a FAST paced and exciting week this week! I can’t wait to share more!

It all about LOVE contest! – Birmingham Portrait Photographer

You know what is next week right?? I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. I think it is a fun day to remind the ones we love the most of how much we love each other. We always need a reason for that! But also, it has become so commercialized that it can take the joy out of the day. Do you know what I mean???

I want to host a little giveaway that will get us in the mood to celebrate those we love! I love my husband, I love my babies, I love my friends, I love my family… I am blessed until my heart overflows and I know you feel the same way!! Now is your chance to win a portrait session to capture that love in print!!

Here are the rules:

1. Email me at sam@hishandsphotographs.com and let me know who you love and why you love them. (Remember, I will be sharing some of your answers on the blog!) Be creative, be truthful…. I am looking for a sweet story!

2. I will pick at least one winner on Valentines Day!

3. Winner with win one free session fee (up to $125 value) and must be used by March 31st. Session must take place in the Birmingham/Hoover area.

4. Session is for up to 5 people.

5. Winner has 5 days to contact me to claim prize. :)

6. Emails only…. Facebook entries or blog posts DO NOT count. Play by the rules!

And two of my favorite pictures of all time. One is me with my babies… I love the story behind the picture. We had just driven across country to San Diego. We arrived to see the Pacific Ocean at sunset. My babies do not always cooperate with pictures but for this one they look so happy…. so natural. And it is a picture of myself that I love too! It makes my heart smile every time I see it!

And one of me and my love at our portrait session from our 10th anniversary session with Sarah Chen. My best friend… the only person who will put up with me! :)

Happy 4th Anniversary!! – Birmingham Portrait Photographer

Posted on February 6, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I noticed the weather was going to be fabulous and I decided I wanted to be outside doing what I love most… meeting people and capturing them in print!! I put a quick status out on Facebook asking if anyone would want a session for a certain time. We had 25 people who wanted a session… I was floored and excited!! I decided to take three sessions that day. My first session of the day is this fabulous couple!!

They just celebrate their fourth anniversary the day before and they decided to meet me before they went to pick up the kiddos from grandma’s house. I LOVE the idea of an anniversary session… it is such a sweet thing to celebrate who you are as a couple AFTER you are married!

I was more than a little nervous for this session. The wife is a very talented photographer… talk about PRESSURE?!? But, they were both so laid back and easy to get along with! I couldn’t ask for a better way to start my day than with hanging out with an awesome couple!
