Lately both of my kids have been on my lap watching me edit. They do this from time to time but I guess I have been editing so much lately that they are noticing more. Elijah keeps asking me all about the kids I am editing. He is jealous that I see so many children with out him, he is even more jealous that the kids have suckers in some of the sessions. This week Elijah wanted to know why I had all these pictures of eyelashes. He asked “Why do they look down?”. I told him about how I try to get the eyelashes of every person I take pictures of and he asked where his eyelash picture is??? I have one but it is while ago so I told him the next time we were out with my camera I would take a picture of his eyelashes. After a session at the gardens, I told him it was time. He was so excited and made my heart skip a beat. Dear Elijah, I am sorry I don’t take enough pictures of you….

And my sweet, crazy little girl… so rough just like your brother. Always looking for a stick or trouble to get into but also so in love with your pink sparkle shoes. I just can’t get enough of you…

I love this session so much because it reminds me of my son’s first portrait session. I took my very first portrait session when my son at this age, this time of year. The tulips were blooming, the weather was fabulous and Elijah was the same age. It was the session that everyone wanted to know WHO took them, not if I took them. It was the session that inspired me to follow a long shot dream. So here I am, serving another family years later. I know the fun they will have in the next few years. Him walking, talking, learning new things… I know how they will love him even more in a few years than they think is possible now. It is a little full circle for me. This is such a sweet family and there is no doubt in my mind that this little prince hangs the moon in their life. What a blessing it is for me to capture him at such a sweet age!

This weekend is crazy busy with a wedding on Friday and 11 mini sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Returning email will be a little slow this weekend, but I hope to catch up on Monday.

In the meantime… I had a little competition from one of my sessions this week. It is ok, I can take it.

You asked me for them! Do you need a few pictures of your children in thier spring outfits? Have you wanted to schedule a session for a long time and want to try a mini session first? Do you want to do something totally different and try an urban setting for your family? This is for you! These sessions will book up fast and we have already booked two of the urban setting sessions before I released it on the blog. I will be bringing my tutus and some funky hats to both locations. I can’t wait to see who I meet or who comes back in a full day of families!! So much fun!

Here are the details for mini sessions for the Spring Quarter. Here are the details:

March 6, 2010

Urban Setting: I have a few spots that I love to use that have GREAT color, cool textures, and are totally unique. Once you book the session, I will give you all the details about directions and where to meet.

March 7, 2010

Traditional Garden Setting:The beautiful Birmingham Botanical Gardens! You can’t go wrong with the first signs of spring, beautiful setting, and lots of diversity in a short walking distance.

Time:Afternoon sessions only. Each session lasts 20 mins and will include 10 – 15 proofs to pick from in an online gallery.

Price: $50 and includes two 8×10s of your choice.

And because I need a picture with every post… check a few from the engagement session from back in the fall. They are getting married this Saturday and I am so excited. I love my job… I mean come on… we get to hang out with awesome people like THIS…

Last minute gift – Birmingham Family Portrait Photographer

One of the sisters in the this family contacted me late on the Thursday night by email. She told me that all of her siblings are in town to celebrate a significant birthday of mom. She knew it was probably last minute but did I have any time for them. Everything worked out where we were able to meet! At our session I learned that one sister just returned from a few years in Korea, one sister lives in another state and brother is busy with medical school! It really was a special time to have everyone together. What a perfect gift to schedule a family portrait session to remember the weekend! I am so glad the timing worked out for everyone!

Her Smile – Birmingham Baby Portrait Photographer

This little girl’s smile just makes me want to smile back. We had her session at 3 months old at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. My favorite picture is the one where she is hanging on mommy’s shoulder and smiling the biggest smile. Smiles aren’t always so easy from this age. For outdoor sessions they are often so amazed by being outside that smiles are not easy to capture. But, when we placed her here she would give me the biggest smile. I almost had a hard time snapping the picture because I just wanted to smile back and talk to her more. And do you see her hair?? Beautiful! She will have tresses that ALL of the girls want when she gets older. It is already so thick! I am slightly jealous since my Sarah does not have this much hair and they are 9 months apart… but anyway… isn’t she just the cutest thing??

Sweet Family- Birmingham Portrait Photographer

A couple of years ago, Jenifer contacted me to ask if she could assist me and learn the photography business. She had the “fire” and wanted to learn more! I was so flattered because I still feel like we just started out. Over the next year or so we were able to meet and talk shop. I can’t wait to see where her business takes her! When we talked about doing a session where she was on the other side of the camera, I was so excited and nervous. There is nothing like photographing another photographer. Plus, her daughter has “photographer child” syndrome (just like Elijah!) and you never know what will happen. But she would actually pose for me! Maybe I should get her to do Elijah’s pictures!!?? Imagine that…. it rained – Birmingham Wedding Photographer

You know with all of this rain we have been blessed with lately, that we were bound to have a wet wedding at some point. On the first Sunday in April, we had just that! How do you handle a wedding at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens? I mean, the reason you plan a wedding at the gardens is to have it outside! But the rain turned out a beautiful thing at this wedding. The air felt perfect… not too cool, not too warm, and a mist was falling during the wedding but it only added an extra special touch. The rain cleared just in the time for the outdoor reception. There was so much about this wedding that was unique. Don’t miss the Husky that ran down the isle right before the bride and started chasing geese during the ceremony! Did you notice there were no flowers? Did you notice she has no veil?

What I love so much about this wedding is that it is uniquely THEM!! That is what you should do when you are planning a wedding. Don’t follow any rules you don’t want to! Make your day about you and your future spouse!
