Going to the Fair – Birmingham Alabama State Fair Family Portraits

What happens to people who are my friends? They are talked into crazy portrait session locations! I tried to talk two other families into the state fair idea and they both said it wasn’t for them but what a great idea. SOOOO…. I “invite” my friends along to the state fair. They knew we were going for a portrait but I wanted the family to enjoy the fair. I brought Cory and my kids along since they are good friends with the girls. It was a wonderful night!! And let me tell you… these are some of my favorite portrait sessions of all time! Watch the video below!

Her sweet face reminds me of a doll! She has the most perfect features, dreamy! I met mom at a wedding a few months ago. The bride at the wedding and a friend went in together for a certificate as a baby gift! I was so excited to meet this sweet baby!!

Let me be honest with you… it is SO hard to take pictures of your own children. With other families, I am a neutral party. With my kids, they know me…. I don’t really take that many pictures of my kids. I am serious. August is both of my kids birthdays and I wanted to do something different for their 4 year and 2 year portraits. My kids also need something to do. My kids love to eat so a picnic sounded right up their alley! PB&J, strawberries, grapes, fancy cheese and I bribed them with vintage cream soda. I love, love, love the results…. would you like to do something similar with your family?? Just let me know…

This little guy is back for another session. We saw him last fall at the beach and now it is time for a formal portrait to celebrate his 5th birthday. Mom wants to continue the tradition in her family of a large portrait of each child when they turn 5 and now is this for her oldest son. We met in Hoover for a quick mini session. I am amazed at how much he has grown since last year. He has lost a little of his baby face and is talking so much. I love watching kiddos grow up! Happy 5th birthday!! You are officially a whole hand!!

Back in July, I was asked to photograph the voices of WDJC 93.7 for the August issue of Birmingham Christian Family. I was so honored to be a part of both of these organizations. Our family listens to WDJC all the time and I always read the magazine every month. We are also excited to photograph a cover of a magazine. We met on a REALLY hot day and did a quick session with all of the guys from the radio station. They have got to be some of the funniest and most down to earth people I have ever met! Make sure you listen to the station and pick up a copy of the magazine this month and tell me what you think!

This is the third time I have photographed this sweetheart. It has been wonderful to watch her grow from a baby/toddler to a little girl. I think this was our best session yet! She listened so well and we even put on her Fancy Nancy outfit at the end! Love it!

It seems like I go in cycles with maternity portraits. I won’t have a maternity session for a while then I will have several all in a row. Now is the time for lots of maternity sessions!! I love maternity sessions where the baby is going to be joining brother and sisters. Why? Because it gives me a chance to work with big brother and sister before the newborn session and I just love pictures of brother and sister hugging the sweet baby bump…. add that with a beautiful radiant momma… wow… I love my job!! A day in the life of Sarah – Bragging about my kid… I will admit it!

I decided this year I would take pictures of the kids birthday all day long. Why? Because I never finished Elijah’s baby book and I never started one with Sarah. It is a deep dark secret and I beat myself up about it. But, I can make the time to take pictures. Now I am going to make her an online documentary that she can see when she is older to remember how we spent her special day.

Sarah, we allowed you to pick out your breakfast this morning. I usually make you eat something a little healthier, but it is your birthday and your choice. You have no idea what a birthday is and don’t understand why you are able to pick the yummy cereal but you take what you can get.

You enjoy a little TV with your cereal and oranges.

I force you into a mini session on our front porch. It is raining so we are forced to keep it on the porch. You just want to run in the rain so I can’t get you to look at me in any of the pictures. But you are still a doll!

Well, you do look at the camera for one picture. But of course you both look miserable… I will take what I can get.

You finally look at the camera when you are strapped in your car seat.

We needed to meet a family with thier pictures so we had a little time where you wanted to pose. I will call this the many faces of Sarah.

Then we took you for cupcakes at Edgar’s Bakery. You and brother both were pleased!

And brother also enjoyed your birthday.

Then we took you swimming and dinner at our friend’s house.

Then we ended the night with singing and brownies.

It was a fabulous day and you didn’t have any idea why the day was all you. You are such a precious spirit that keeps us on our toes and makes me laugh!! Happy birthday to you, my Sarah!

Beautiful Baby Belly- Birmingham Alabama Maternity Photographer

This beautiful momma is half of the talented Nolen Photography. We see each other from time to time when our sessions are at the same place and I talk with her in facebook. I knew she was towards the end of her pregnancy and I offered to take a few maternity pictures of her and her son. I was nervous offering because I didn’t want to be turned down but I also knew that as photographers we usually put ourselves last… WHY??? Because we hate to be on the other side of the lens. But every mom wants pictures of their babies. I was so happy she allowed me to serve her in the way that she serves so many (including my family last Fall!). I was nervous, she was nervous being on the “other side”… and her son was typical 2 year old photographer’s child. I brought my Elijah along and he saved the day. He made funny faces then played with her son afterwards. I love the results and I am so honored to serve another photographer. Congrats on the new sweet baby!! Having two is a blast and it just gets better and better!
